This alloy is a subgrade of Ti-6Al-4V ELI. This means it consists of titanium alloyed with aluminum and vanadium, with exceedingly low amounts of interstitial elements iron, carbon, and oxygen. These qualities provide the metal with better ductility and fracture toughness than most other standard Ti-6Al-4V variants. The low levels of the interstitial elements make it useful for high-performance applications.

This alloy also can be heat treated to strengthen it further, with processes such as mill annealing, beta annealing, or recrystallization annealing commonly used. These processes are performed in a vacuum or in an atmosphere of inert gases to prevent the formation of an alpha phase layer that is extremely hard and brittle.
